Your Governors

What Governors Do

The role of the Governors is:

  • To provide a strategic role
  • To act as a critical friend
  • To ensure accountability

How Do Governors Work

The full Governing Body meets at least once a term. However there are three committees which meet more often and these are:

Leadership Committee

The role of this Committee is to ensure that the school's budget is spent wisely. We want to make sure that the budget is spent on areas where the information tells us there needs to be an improvement. We also need to make sure that we have a rolling programme of maintenance for the school building. This Committee also deals with all staffing issues.

Personal Development, Behaviour and welfare

This Committee has a sub-committee which deals with health and safety issues and the main Committee deals with behaviour and safety of children in the school. Both the main Committee and the sub-committee include members of the teaching and support staff.

Outcomes Committee

Whilst all Committees are important, this is a very important one for Dovelands. This Committee concentrates on how children are learning and how well they are learning. The information on this is looked at very closely to make sure that all children are achieving their potential and if this is not the case what is being done to help them to do so.

It is important that Governors have a good relationship between themselves, the head and the staff and we all work hard to make sure that this is the case. This means that we are able to trust each other and so work well together.

Contacting the Chair of Governors

If you wish to contact the Chair of Governors you can do so via the school either email, office@dovelands.Leicester.sch.uk, or in writing addressed to the school and we will ensure it is passed on.

If you are interested in becoming a Governor, please contact the school via email letting us know what skills and attributes you can offer to the Governing body.
