In the Foundation Stage we listen to every child read individually at least once a week and change their books. All children will bring home at least two reading books. We encourage the children to talk about their books and ask them questions to see if they understand what they have read.
We also have opportunities for whole class shared reading sessions and we read captions and sentences during our daily Jolly Phonic lessons.
Children are encouraged to use their sound knowledge to decode each word. When they have decoded and read every word on the list they can take it home for further reading and writing practise.
Please hear your child read as often as you can and sign and date the Reading Record. It only takes a few minutes and has an enormous impact on reading progress.
