Learning in Years 3 and 4

Our Year 3 and 4 curriculum is planned to develop enjoyment of, and commitment to, learning. There is an emphasis on teaching exciting lessons which stimulate and encourage children to progress to their full potential. We build on pupil’s strengths and interests, developing their confidence and encouraging them to work both independently and collaboratively. Work is planned carefully to suit children’s individual needs and ensure all children are able to work at their own level of challenge.

Children are taught daily literacy and numeracy lessons during each morning. They will also be taught mental maths, GAPS (grammar and punctuation and spelling), guided reading and handwriting on a daily basis. In the afternoons, children will focus on topic based learning and RE as well as developing their computing skills. Details of their half termly learning can be found by clicking on the tab below.

We are committed to providing a varied, exciting curriculum . With this in mind, we aim to provide children with as many real life experiences as possible. We arrange school trips to extend their learning at least once a term as we feel these experiences are such a valuable way to enhance learning.

Within school, we also provide many practical learning activities. Over the time in Year 3 and 4, children will have the experience of:

  •  MFL including a language of the month and French days

  • Specialist art lessons

  • Weekly specialist PE sessions

  • Gardening

  • Ukulele lessons

In addition to this, out of hour clubs are offered to the children. These include:
