Our Approach
Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. We believe that effective teaching of this subject at Dovelands engages, inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They also understand how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. Pupils produce creative work, explore their ideas and record their experiences as they develop their proficiency in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design.

Years 5 and 6 had a fantastic time recently when they transformed each other into Ancient Mayan warriors as part of a cross curricular approach to art/history. After looking at images to find out themes in Ancient Mayan body decoration the children painted each other’s faces until some were almost unrecognisable! Many brave warriors left school at the end of the day fully made up. Did you see them?
