E-Safety for Parents

Here at Dovelands Primary School, we have multiple features in place such as a web search filtering system, online safe search and monitoring software. We are committed to providing a safe environment for learning using the internet. But not all of these resources are available at your home, so what can you do to make your child safe online?

Restrict the times your child can use their devices such as their smartphone, games console, tablet, computer, etc.

Talk to them about what they were doing, take an interest and get them to open up to you.

Search online together, do activities together; possibly even research topics for their homework.

Google has a very nice feature in place called Safe Search and this will block explicit or inappropriate results from appearing. You can access this feature by going to Google, then navigating to Settings, and from there turn on Safe Search.

It could also be possible that your wireless router at home offers features to block certain websites and also restrict the times the wireless can be on for. You can find out how to do this by contacting your service provider or by looking it up online.

If you would like more advice on keeping your children safe online, then below you will find some very useful links to help you do this.
